Summary

2。75 ⭐Okay this book was off to a slow start with a LOT of travelling and a pop-up prophecy。 There is a strong "second book syndrome" here。 Mostly due to it taking a whole third of the book for anything to happen。 This book really felt like it could have been 50 pages long of new information， and then we could move on to book three。 I also felt that Dessin （and co） and Skylenna lost their personalities a bit in this book。 There was a lot of character building and progression for both of them in 2。75 ⭐Okay this book was off to a slow start with a LOT of travelling and a pop-up prophecy。 There is a strong "second book syndrome" here。 Mostly due to it taking a whole third of the book for anything to happen。 This book really felt like it could have been 50 pages long of new information， and then we could move on to book three。 I also felt that Dessin （and co） and Skylenna lost their personalities a bit in this book。 There was a lot of character building and progression for both of them in book one， and it really came to a stall in book two。 I did enjoy how their relationship grew in this book。 And I will NEVER complain about having spice in a book。 Level 2 spice 🌶️🌶️。 Book one had this "thing"， and clearly book two is following the trend， where it feels like the author is just trying to be dark for *darks sake*。 Shock value does not equal a good book。 Genuine emotion should be brought out by good writing and not by cheap shock factors。 I was a fan of the first book （minus the transphobic scene， did not like！）， but I felt a bit let down here。 Her world idea has a lot of interesting concepts， and the general storyline is definitely intriguing。 It just did not seem to work in this book。 I will read the blurb for book three when we have the info， and decide then if I will give this series another chance。 I do like the two MC a lot， and I want to see a good ending for them。 We'll see。 🤷♀️*SPOILERS BELOW SPOILERS BELOW*In case I do decide to continue with this series: a quick story wrap。They travel。 There is some big prophecy about them that we found NOTHING about。 They go back to the asylem because they need to find a man named Judas。 Judas tells them Ruth has been kidnapped。 Ruth is rescued。 Skylenna spends four hours being tortured， but is given medication to make her feel like every hour is a month。 Obvs Dessin rescues her。 There are a lot of people after Dessin who want him dead。 We gain a group member， Worrose， who trained with Dessin when they were boys。 The books ends with a cliffhanger: “This is the leader of our country。” Silence。 Cold claws cut into my spine and drag down my back。 This isn’t real。 Dessin clears his throat with disgust。 “This is Aurick Demechnef。”✌️✌️ 。。。more

ARC Review I was so excited to get to dive back into this world after the first book。 This is such a complex world， and the twists and turns are crazy。 Wow。 This was an action packed book that held my attention from the moment I started it。 I never knew where the story was going， and I couldn't wait to find out。 We meet more alters in this book， but Dessin still holds my heart。 That man is just *chefs kiss*。 We get a little bit of spice in this book， and I was 100% here for it。 Niles just cracks ARC Review I was so excited to get to dive back into this world after the first book。 This is such a complex world， and the twists and turns are crazy。 Wow。 This was an action packed book that held my attention from the moment I started it。 I never knew where the story was going， and I couldn't wait to find out。 We meet more alters in this book， but Dessin still holds my heart。 That man is just *chefs kiss*。 We get a little bit of spice in this book， and I was 100% here for it。 Niles just cracks me up。 He relieves some of the darkness in this book with his humor。 The revelation at the end are you kidding？？！！ I was not expecting that， and it makes me want to dive right into the next book。 Overall I really liked this book！ The characters and plot keep getting more and more intriguing。 I really enjoyed this book， but PLEASE PLEASE check trigger warnings。 This series is not for everyone。 It has very heavy topics in it， and if you are sensitive to those you should not read this series。 I can't wait for book three to see what happens next for these characters and this world。 。。。more

R e v i e w :I was recently lucky to receive an ARC of ‘The Master and the Marionette’ ， the second book in a four book dark romantasy series。 The book follows up on the gloomy， twisty storyline of the first book and dives deeper into the fantasy world， as the main characters’ relationship， Skylenna and Dessin’s will inevitably be tested。‘The Master and the Marionette’ expands more into the world building and its characters， as secret aspects of their dangerous pasts are slowly uncovered。 To say R e v i e w :I was recently lucky to receive an ARC of ‘The Master and the Marionette’ ， the second book in a four book dark romantasy series。 The book follows up on the gloomy， twisty storyline of the first book and dives deeper into the fantasy world， as the main characters’ relationship， Skylenna and Dessin’s will inevitably be tested。‘The Master and the Marionette’ expands more into the world building and its characters， as secret aspects of their dangerous pasts are slowly uncovered。 To say much would give a lot of the book away， but it does have a lot of favorite tropes that may hint at what’s to come: slow burn， friends to lovers， one bed trope， prophecy trope， burn down the world for the other and sooo much more。 ‼️Warning: there is a cliffhanger ending that will make anticipation for the next book harder。 Proceed at your own risk。 That being said， I’m certainly entirely intrigued to see what the story will come to in the next installment。 [4/5⭐️]‼️P。S。 It is of the utmost importance to note that this book includes a lot of themes that not all readers will be comfortable with。 Detailed trigger warnings being provided for a book like this are crucial to me and should be to everyone， so I would suggest anyone even thinking about picking this up， to check them out well before deciding 🖤 。。。more

part so the rest is up to you。 Now that’s settled， I’ll move on to my opinion of the book and I’ll be talking about the writing style， the world building and characters。I really love the writing style in the book， I loved the first book of the series but I think that this one tops it。 It’s only her second novel and I feel like she’s already evolved a lot。 The book is easy to read but has very beautiful dialogues and description。 I had no issue with it and I can’t wait to see Brandi evolve again and again in her future books。 And talking about descriptions， they contribute to the enhancement of the world-building。 It’s a complex world with different territories， different people with different capacities that we meet during the novel。 The map at the beginning of the book helps picturing the world Brandi has created。 It’s a rich world with not only the creation of territories but also a certain hierarchy and that’s really well-explained and clear。 When it comes to the characters， obviously DESSIN and KANE have my heart。 We get to meet other alters but I won’t be developing that point too much because I want you guys to discover it by yourself。 I can only say that you will love them all like I love them all they’re unique and it’s just impossible to me that someone wouldn’t like them。 Also， considering the fact that this character has DID and different alters， I want to say this was brilliantly done because I was never lost while reading the book， you can immediately tell who Skylenna is speaking to， we learn many stuff about DID through Sky and the alters’s conversations。 I already knew many things as I’ve listened to a lot of people who have DID talk about it but there were some things that I ignored and it even made me want to keep doing research about it so I think that’s a good way to introduce people to this and make them want to learn more。 Now Brandi encourages in the author’s note to inform yourself etc so obviously it’s not a documentary about that BUT what I’m saying is that you can still learn many things thanks to that book and I encourage you， just like the author， to make your research as well ！！！ Brandi has done a good job on that and you can feel she really did work closely with someone who has DID。 So trust me you won’t be lost when you read it 😁 Skylenna has evolved a lot since the first book， she still suffers from trauma because of her past and she keeps suffering in that book like。。。 it’s really hard to read at times because she goes through so much torture especially mentally speaking。 She stays strong and she holds on as much as she can and she has the help of Dessin and the whole system。 They’re her protectors and it’s all giving « burn down the world for you » like 28938048029% ！！ We learn that their bond and the reason why they feel so much about each other is due to something else but Brandi doesn’t reveal everything here so the build up regarding the plot is well balanced because we learn stuff but not too much at once and I liked it！ The characters get closer and you get that spice ！ But it’s still a slow burn because Kane doesn’t completely let go he makes it clear she’s his everything but pulls the « we’re friends » card because he is hiding something so that creates tension between them but that slow burn was DELICIOUS。 Even with slow burn they were intense so what’s it gonna be like in the following books？？？？ Can’t wait already ！！In conclusion， that was 5 🌟 /5 I loved it it has everything I wanted and was looking for so PICK UP THAT BOOK AND GET READY BECAUSE TRUST ME。。。 YOU’RE SO NOT READY RIGHT NOW。 Thanks again Brandi for giving us that story and for counting me amongst your ARC readers。 You killed it！ ❤️ 。。。more

I read this book in one day I legitimately stayed up until 3 AM reading this book。 And I almost never do that type of thing。 That’s how amazingly intrigued I was。 This book is either tie for first or better then the first book。 If you loved the first book then you will love the second book either equally or more than you loved the first。
